THE BET AWARDS: THROUGH THE YEARS

​​For 23 years, the BET Awards has been a cornerstone of Black culture, bringing the biggest celebrities together to create iconic moments.

This year's highly anticipated performers include Lauryn Hill, Childish Gambino, Tyla, Summer Walker, GloRilla, Latto, Sexyy Red, Victoria Monét and more.

The BET Awards air tonight at 8pm EST.

Before tuning in tonight, we took a look back at some of our favorite BET red carpet throwback looks throughout the years.

2003 - Mýa 

This black and white corset and pinstripe pant combo aged like fine wine, paired with a bright red heel and lip by the "Fallen" singer.

2001 -Mary J. Blidge

Everyone's favorite auntie ate down in this slit distressed denim dress at the first BET Awards. To add dimension to the look, a belt and bright boots perfectly matched her signature blonde.

2007 - Rihanna

The Fenty queen didn't even have to do much to own the red carpet in this simple strapless ruched dress.

2021 - Lil Nas

Warming up the crowd before his controversial BET Awards performance, Lil Nas shocked in a lace and floral suit.

The girl group served casual cool in a variety of rhinestone embellished looks paired with crotchet pieces and denim.

The "Hot In Herre" rapper was iced out at the first BET Awards, wearing a Gucci leather jersey with matching shorts.

2002 - Taraji P. Henson

The legendary actress served a Y2K look that could still pass today in an edgy leather butterfly top paired with pink velvet lace up pants.

2001- Usher 

Usher went full all-American in this clean 90's look, pairing a color block motorcycle jacket with a white tee and jeans.

2017 - Cardi

Cardi made sure everyone knew she meant business at her first BET Awards in a bright monochrome suit set showing just enough skin.
